About
Karen Witting got her first taste of the world of theatre when she was in high school. A friend suggested she come along to a meeting of the schools Thespian society where Karen volunteered herself to do costumes and makeup for the upcoming production of Harvey. From that moment on, she was hooked.She attended college at Butler University where she recieved her BA in English and Theatre. During her time at Butler, Karen was the editor of the school's literary magazine, Manuscripts, a member of the Sigma Tau Delta honor society, and a vice president of her sorority Pi Beta Phi. She spent three years working as an assistant in the theatre department costume shop, where she learned the tricks of the trade and listened to more than a few show tunes. Karen also spent a semester of her senior year interning in the costume shop at the Indiana Repertory Theatre and particularly loved her two week-long wig and makeup internships with the Indianapolis Opera.Karen began her freelance costume design career while still in school, working with the Asante Children's Theatre and the Phoenix Theatre, but put freelancing on hold after graduation to spend some time as the assistant costume shop manager at Beef and Boards Dinner Theatre.Currently, Karen works as the costume shop manager at Anderson University. In her spare time, she still enjoys doing freelance costume design, wardrobe/props styling, and occasionally over-hire stitcher work at Avant Garb mascot makers.
